1 dead, 1 injured in armed clash over local wagon stand.

FAISALABAD:

A young man was shot and killed, while another sustained serious injuries over a dispute over a wagon stand in the Khurarianwala Police Station precincts on Wednesday. According to police officials, two rival groups Iftikhar alias ‘Bhola Group’ and Abdul Ahad alias ‘Vehshi’ group exchanged indiscriminate fire to occupy a wagon stand along Route No11 near Adda Chowk in Khurarianwala. During the clash, Kurrianwala resident Abdul Ahad and D-Type colony resident Muhammad Zaman Khan received serious bullet injuries.

“These groups have been fighting over this wagon stand for nearly 8 months. There have been several armed clashes because each wants to be able to control free transport for their men,” said an eyewitness Muhammad Kashif. Both men were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital Faisalabad where Abdul Ahad succumbed to his injuries. Doctors at the hospital said that Muhammad Zaman’s condition was critical and that he had been admitted to the emergency unit. Police officials have registered a case against five accused including Iftikhar Bhola, Murtaza, Asif and Yaseen. “We have arrested three of the men but two have escaped. They say that they had arranged a time to ‘settle’ the matter once and for all but that the Bhola group began firing first,” said inspector Naeem.
