Two men were killed and six others, including an Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) leader, injured on Saturday when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at his vehicle in Sargodha, Punjab.
ASWJ District Bhakkar President Maulana Abdul Hameed Khalid was on his way to court, when his vehicle came under attack near Noori Gate in Sargodha, sources said.
As a result of the attack – in which three men were reported to be involved – two of his security guards were killed, while he and his five other colleagues got injured.
Maulana Abdul Hameed, who was shot in the leg, was rushed to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Sargodha. “The ASWJ leader is out of danger,” said a doctor at the hospital.
His injured companions had been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Sargodha. Following the incident, the police took into custody two suspects, who were stated to be roaming around the DHQ hospital where injured were being given the treated.
Reaction in Faisalabad
As the news of the attack spread, ASWJ supporters staged demonstrations in several parts of Faisalabad to vent their anger and resentment over the incident.
A number of the small processions emerged from various parts of the city while the main demonstration was staged in front of the Secretariat of City District Government.
