Sackings in bulk at Waqt News

Sackings in bulk at Waqt News
ISLAMABAD: Waqt News, the channel owned by Nawa-i-Waqt Media Group has sacked about 90 staff, among them Waheed Hussain, the host of prime time talk show Barwaqt and Executive Director of the Current Affairs Department.

The news comes on the heels of yesterday’s heartbreaker that Geo TV is set to fire about 80 or more staff.

Also among those whose services have been terminated is a Senior Producer who was lured back from Dunya TV in Ramazan on a hefty package.

One of the staff members of Waqat News, requesting not to be named said that those sacked were given no prior notices while many of them were humiliated when they went to work. “We were asked to pack up when we reported for duty and were searched when we left,” said a journalist, also shown the door.

He said that 25 staff from the Current Affairs Department in Islamabad had been sacked. The exact number of employees booted out from Lahore and Karachi centers was not immediately known.

Waqat News was launched in early 2008.
