Barna’s death mourned


ISLAMABAD, Jan 14: The death of Minhaj Barna has been widely condoled by the journalist community, civil society, leaders of political parties and government functionaries.



PFUJ: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists aulogised the services of its great leader and hero and condoled with the bereaved family. It also decided to observe a seven-day mourning to condole his death by holding condolence meetings and references at media centres throughout the country.



President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of veteran journalist Minhaj Barna.

The President prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace and grant of courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude. Burna was a legendary figure of journalism in the history of struggle of freedom of press. His iconic struggle inspired the successive generations of journalists to uphold the flag of free and independent media.

PRIME MINISTER: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of veteran journalist and a founder of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist (PFUJ) Minhaj Barna.



The Prime Minister in his message of condolence to the bereaved family paid rich tributes to late Minhaj Barna on his services for freedom of press and for the welfare of journalist community.



He said that his services would be longer remembered by the journalist community. The Prime Minister prayed to Almighty Allah to shower his countless blessings upon the departed soul and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with patience and fortitude.



KAIRA: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Friday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Minhaj Barna, who passed away after protracted illness in Rawalpindi on Friday morning, was a veteran journalist and Founding President of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ).



In his condolence message, the minister said his death marks the end of an era of journalism.

Paying rich tributes to the late journalist, he said Minhaj Burna never compromised on principles and always adhered to the norms and principles of journalism.



Minhaj Barna played a pivotal role for the freedom of press and for the welfare of journalists community, he added.
