PFUJ announces election schedule

ISLAMABAD: Elections of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) are to be held on March 27 at the National Press Club Islamabad, it was announced Sunday (Feb 13).

In the elections, 17 members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), a president, two vice presidents, a secretary general, two assistant secretaries general and a treasurer would be elected. Delegates elected from all over Pakistan would cast their votes, Secretary General of PFUJ, Shamsul Islam Naz said.

As per the decisions of the FEC meeting held on January 23 in Islamabad and according to terms of Article VI of the PFUJ constitution, the following schedule has been drawn:

The entire election exercise and schedule would be conducted and processed by a four-member election committee headed by Nasir Zaidi with Abid Hussain Abid, Iqbal Jaffary, Salim Khilji and Nisar Hussain as members. According to the schedule, nomination papers shall be received between February 19 and March 4 (midnight).

The List of nominees would be sent to general secretaries of affiliated unions on March 4 midnight after the receipt of nomination papers. Scrutiny of nomination papers would be completed between March 5 and 10.

The list of nominees after scrutiny shall be sent to general secretaries of Unions of Journalists on March 10; representations against the decisions of the Election Committee shall be received by the chairman of the said committee for six days after the completion of scrutiny.

The provisional list of candidates would be announced on March 18 midnight with the final list of candidates being announced on March 27 following withdrawals. Nomination papers can be delivered to the Chairman Election Committee Nasir Zaidi either in person or by Registered Post/TCS or by fax (051-2870221).

A camp office of the Election Committee has also been set up at PFUJ Secretariat 12-Nazimuddin Road, F-6/1, Islamabad.
