In the present circumstances, journalists are risking their lives to report news and events. So far, many TV reporters and cameraman as well as newspaper reporters have been killed in Pakistan. While the government provides pension and privileges to the families of government officials if they die in the line of duty, the media firms do not.

TV anchors get hefty salaries, but field journalists receive mere pittance. News channel owners receive advertisements worth billions of rupees, but their reporters are not looked after properly.

Also, most media houses do not provide any medical cover to journalists. I suggest that the government should pronounce their performance and profession as a special service to the nation, so that journalists receive the respect they deserve.
